Dialysis tubing, also known as Visking tubing, provides useful class aid for demonstrating the principles of diffusion, osmosis, Brownian motion, and the movement of molecules across a restrictive membrane. Diameter of tubing (of approximately 1 inch, or 25 millimeters) reflects size when flat. This dialysis tubing has a typical molecular weight cutoff of 12,000 to 14,000 Daltons.
